Advice on Snapper Rear-engine purchase?

Hi,
We have an old Honda pushmower that is nearing the end of its life. The right handlebar broke in half and it just doesn't work like it should.

I want to get a riding mower and just saw this ad:

I really like the way Snapper tools are built, but how are their mowers? We had John Deere riding mowers before, and they cut well. They weren't mechanically sound though because they were really old.

This Snapper looks to be in mint condition and I talked to the guy and he said it was used lightly. Is $300 a decent asking price for this thing? How well do you think it will hold up mechanically? Please help me out so I can make a good purchase.
