Replacing Drive Belt Craftsman 917.275700?

I want to replace the drive belt on my 24hp 48" Craftsman tractor but I have a problem. Following the manual instructions, there appears to be no way to get the old drive belt off over the blade drive clutch. The belt is just too short. I would try to take off the clutch, but I cannot figure out how to remove the bolt holding the clutch onto the crankshaft since the engine just turns. Anyone know how I can lock the engine from turning? or perhaps is there just some secret I am missing about getting the old belt off. (I have the belt off the drive clutch pully and ider pulley, so the belt is just running straight from crankshaft drive pulley to transmission drive pulley) Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I did get it replaced. I think the instructions in the manual are impossible to execute. They say to work the belt down over the blade drive clutch, and then work it off the transmission pully over the transmission cooler fan. But the belt is just not long enough to do this. What does work is to work the belt up above the crankshaft pulley to where it is just around the crankshaft itself. Then you have enough slack to work the belt up and off the transmission pulley. From there, removal is easy. It is made easier by taking off the belt retainer bracket that is around the crankshaft pulley, another tidbit that is not mentioned in the manual. Maybe this post will help others who might run into the same issues.
