Need a new riding mower/tractor

Hi all!

OK, I have an older craftsman mower and I am tired fixing it. It seems like it is always something, breaking mower deck castings, belts breaking, not being able to take the beating my "yard" throws at it.

I live on 5 acres and cut a little more than an acre of it. It is old pasture are, stuff grows like crazy and fast. Sometimes it is a bit thick. I don't know how to really describe it, all I know is I am frustrated beyond belief and I think it is time for a new mower.

I have been reading up on mowers and I can't figure out what to get. I need somthing powerful that will cut through tall think weeds, but, of course, I don't want to spend too much.

Any suggestions?

I think you need something more substantial than what you have. Either a good used garden tractor or a good used compact/subcompact tractor. The link below shows a typical used subcompact (Kubota BX2200) that can handle your rough ground and the price is right.

Maybe a little more info as to what you have like the HP and deck size? You mention "it is a bit thick." Is that like in the spring when we're all mowing twice a week or is that you're trying to mow hay?

I have an "old craftsman" GT 5000 with a 26HP and it mows whatever is needed, but I don't try to mow hay or "bushhog" with it.

The link Larso provided shows a really neat machine and the price is right for mowing lawns, not really rough or bushhog type appolications.
