Lawn Tractor Purchase Advice

Built a house on top of a hill. Has two acres in front of it down to the road, including a pond levee. We mow around the house (about 1/4 acre) with a push mower. Down the hill (about 1.25 acres) is too much for the push. Have used the neighbor's Kubota with a belly mower. It handles the hillside ok, but I don't have money for a real tractor. Looking at mowers. Will probably buy a Craftsman, but wonder which one can handle a steep hill for several years.

Recommendations?

IMHO get a GT so you have a decent transmission for the "steep hill" also consider getting some Ag or ATV type rear tires.

Will you be doing anything else, hauling, tilling, etc. with the tractor?

A LT would probably do the job for a while, but they (generally) have weak transmissions and you mentioned "several years."

I mow a hill with a Craftsman GT and it does fine. I use the stock turf tires and added wheel weights and don't have many issues.
