| Attached a link to a JD wash out port on ebay that I saw recently. Looking at it, if you can drill a hole it will fit almost any deck. I've seen posts pro and con on these. moisture is the enemy of any mower deck which is one of the main reasons that you shouldn't mow wet grass. There are arguments that introducing water on top of the quills or blade mandrels will shorten their life. Don't use them myself, just periodically run the tractor up on ramps, scrape away dried crud. Every fall, do a more thorough cleaning, wire brush and spray on cheap rattle can paint. As I understand it, vented decks vent the air flow created by the blades up around the mandrels theoretically pulling the grass upright for a more even cut. Also heard that this air movement helps to cool the mandrel and prolong life. Ev

| Thanks, your advice makes sense. I will take your approach. |

| I believe they were invented by bearing manufacturers to help increase sales (of bearings, that is). Tread with caution. If you must use a washout port be sure the mower and bearings are COMPLETELY cooled and then run the mower afterwards to dry it out. If you spray water on a hot bearing it will cool quickly and suck moisture in (not good). |

| I agree, adding that water will do more harm than good. I never mow wet grass, but light surface rust is inevitable, mainly because caked grass hardens enough to pull paint right off. Each spring I remove my deck, sharpen the blades, wire brush all the rust off, prime, and paint with yellow OEM paint from a big box store. Joe |
