look under tilting seat into cavity - get full model number off ID plate so we can know what machine/configuration we are dealing with. Meanwhile, take fuel supply hose off at carb. have assistant crank engine while holding hose into container. look for good stream of fuel. If not, repair/replace fuel line/fuel filter/fuel pump from fuel tank.
if good, remove carb again, disassemble, clean including probing EVERY orifice with a stiff small dia brass tag wire and blowing out with compressed air (use a magnifying glass); then rebuilding with a fresh carb rebuild kit. do not re-use gaskets. Pay close attention to hi speed jets. Also make certain that afterfire solenoid located at carb bottom is not sticking.

i have replaced the fuel filter and there is good gas flow coming to the carb, will try to do tomorrow again, but it will be late in the day, thanks

and one more thing, doug - after you re-overhaul that carb and get it back on - also make sure that you are getting 12volts to that afterfire solenoid at the carb bottom when the ignition switch is turned on - you should hear the solenoid click....

thanks for all the help. found the problem, a jet was clogged, fixed that, it started right up for about a minute before the engine blew. anyone got a cheap 17.5 briggs engine for sale?
