John Deere or Snapper

I am in need of purchasing a new Tractor as my 8 year old Craftsman LT 1000 is becoming too problematic (as soon as I finish fixing one thing something new happens). I suppose in all fairness this tractor has been worked hard over the years, but I thought it would last a little longer.
Now it is time for a new one and I have narrowed down to a John Deere x304 ($3,600) and a Snapper LT 130 (on sale for $2,300). Both have AWS and the Snapper comes with a larger engine 23hp vs 17hp for the JD and it has a larger deck at 46 inches. Both are good brands but which will last longer? I mean significantly longer than my old Sears tractor.
I live on a 1.3 acre lot that does have small hills as the house is built up on the lot (West Palm Beach, FL). Therefore I do have standing water during the rainy season and need to cut in and arround water constantly. I guess I could just get a Home Depot JD tractor but I don't want to "cheap out" like I did last time and be sorry in the end.
So, which of these choices will go the distance and why?

Would be leery of salt air/water damage if you live close enuff to the water. In that case, don't think either of those machines would stand up too long.L&G tractors iun general are not designed to handle outside storage exposure - particularly their electrical systems.
You might chk with yer local neighbors for what good/bad tractor experiences they've had and also mebbe get a tip or two on reliable local dealers that you can talk with.

Got a lot of sand in yer yard ? If so, might be better off with a used 28"/30" Snapper RER in good shape equipped with a low lift blade...A little crude, but a tuff machine that does well in southern climes.... easier to service, less $$.

If your looking for a real machine I would look into Kubota or a JD with diesel, they are much better on manance and will last you a very long time!!!

I was in the same boat, older Craftsman. Steering, deck problems. There is local dealers with John Deere, and Snapper. I went with Snapper, it's very well built and it's made in the USA!

Personally I will steer away from snapper in the future. Most of my local shops have stopped carrying them. I think it has to do with some thing one of the few around that will still get me parts said. Apparently snapper either won't ship till the order gets so big, or they charge exorbitant shipping so I can wait months to get parts, or pay out the nose to get them.
