Briggs and Stratton 42A707

In replacing the starter I had to remove the flywheel. I may or may not have had to remove the flywheel but I trapped a wratchet wrench on a tight, inside bolt. doh!

Before removal I measured the air gap at .006 but the edge was rusty and don't know if that was accurate. That makes me suspicious now that it turns over but doesn't start.

TIA and keep your boots muddy!

Well you do not need to remove the flywheel to remove the starter.

Air gap is .010", Be sure the mounting surfaces of the coil AND the engine block are bright clean and the "Kill" wire hasn't been pinched under the cooling shroud.
