Craftsman LT 1000 help with engaging blades spring

I bought a LT 1000 rider with deck not attached. upon attaching the deck I'm having a problem figuring out how to attach the blade engagement cable to the deck. There is a tension pulley it is suppose to hook up to but the spring doesn't seem to want to go through the hole in the pin. am i missing a piece or is the spring suppose to go through the hole in the pin? I suppose I could drill out the hole so the spring will fit but wanted to make sure im hooking it up correctly. I've looked at the manual but can't make heads or tales out of it.

your thoughts would be much appreciated

Are you saying the diameter of the hook (the wire the hook is made of) on the end of the spring is larger than the hole in the arm that attaches to the idler pulley?

NM Stevep, I just realized you are refering to a brand new craftsman. I beleive Craftsman has change manufacturers again so my experience is likely outdated.

Yes, that is exactly what I was saying.....hole is smaller than diameter of spring which lead me to believe I might not have been hooking it up right.

Well, simply calling it out as a Craftsman LT 1000 does not help anybody who might wish to help.
The nomenclature "LT 1000" is a generic reference to an enduring model name.
What is needed for getting specific information about "which" LT 1000 requires posting the full technical model number (typically begins as 917. and can be found under the tilting seat).
Saying LT 1000 is like saying I have a Chevy Impala....Yeah? Which one?
