craftsman dyt4000

I have a craftsman dyt4000 lawn tractor (18,5 ohv intertek). While in the process of mowing, the engine killed. Attempts to re-start were met with dead silence. I discovered the fuse was blown and replaced it. The engine will re-start, but attempting to engage the clutch to mow blows the fuse. I have meticulously searched for a bare wire, assuming it is a short, but cannot find any such spot. At this point, would one assume the electric clutch needs replacement? ....or is there something else to try first??
