Murray cuts out when I engaged the blades and other issues

I have a Murray 425613X8A with a Briggs and Stratton Model no. 422707 Type 126401. It is a Murray select 42 inch widebody with a 17.5 HP I/C engine. The mower has two problems, firstly when I try to start it I usually hear a clicking noise and the engine turns a few times only. If I connect a jumper from the battery directly to the starter it will fire up the engine. From what I have read this could be the switch or solenoid.

The second problem is that when it is running and I engaged the blades it runs poorly and cuts out on small slopes.

I have also noticed that if I run it for 15 minutes or more and then shut it if off I cannot start it even if I use the jumper lead from the battery directly to the starter, it just slowly turns the engine. A few weeks ago I did change the oil and spark plugs, checked the air filter and sprayed the carb with some carb cleaner.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
