Not familiar with your machine, but, as a general rule, the BACK (flat) side of the belts rides against the idler pulley, while the "V" shaped side of the belt runs in the groove of the regular pulleys. The idler pulley swivels and is pulled on by a spring, which is what provides tension on the belt. In other words, the spring-loaded idler PUSHES against the outside of the belt to tighten it up.
