White smoke generally indicates head gasket. It would help if we had some idea of what engine you are talking about, model number. I don't do look ups from Mfgs. model numbers.

As Walt stated.........I concur (entirely).
And, if this tractor has a gravity fed fuel system, it's possible that gasoline infiltrating into the crankcase lube oil might be causing similar "white smoke" symptoms.

It's a Kohler Command 25, from 2004. It's got about 375 hours on it.

I started it up again today, and the steady stream of smoke wasn't streaming out as it did a few days ago, though it seemed kind of smelly, and when I changed the engine speed, I'd get smoke. Just occasional plumes today, but I was able to get the yard mowed. I'll check the oil again tomorrow....

zootjs - if you smell raw gas on that dipstick, change out the crankcase oil and filter ASAP. Engine oil thinned out with fuel does not provide needed lubrication and will soon have you replacing a trashed engine.

Dipstick came out dry again, when I'd filled it two ours previously.

It's a blown head gasket, apparently caused by me not cleaning the fins. Lesson learned.
