my 425 john deere shuts itself off

i have a 2000 model 425 with about 600 hours on it. the mower has been maintained at the john deere dealership but i would like to try to fix my problem with it myself this time if i can. the tractor will shut down instantly after a few minutes of run time and will always restart but stall after only a few seconds. is it a computer that monitors the tractor that is the problem? where is it located and how hard is it to change? what does the part generally cost? any suggestions? thanks kastan

Check that the vent in the fuel cap is clear. If the cap does not have a vent then the fuel tank is vented with a hose and you need to check that the vent hose is clear.
