I'm sure you remember using the sprinkling can to dump used oil on the stone road to keep the dust down. I do.

I am working at my third company that used deep wells to dispose of all their nasty chemicals. The first one from 1969 is currently a superfund site. That same company dumped all their other stuff into my grandparent's minehole and that also became a DER site.

We had so many mineholes in this part of PA and they all became municipal dumps. You'd back up the car to the edge and throw everything into the hole. I remember the water being yellow, back in the '50s.

A local auto repair shop used to dump their old oils down a pipe that used to be the pipe from the water well that the former owner used for years, as we didn't have city water here, back then. It took some years for it to finally migrate to my 200 ft. deep water well, that had been a great source of fresh clean water for our home!
That forced us to switch to City water, about twenty years ago.
