Grass catcher mounting gone bad

A mower came into the shop with the description that the mower backfired twice and then died. The owner wore down the battery trying to restart it.

The first thing I did was to check for compression and spark. I saw a spark or two and then none. After unplugging a connector at the block, I had full spark, so I started checking the safety switches. While laying on the ground, it was easy to see a haphazard mounting of a grass catcher with lag screws, to the rear panel of the mower.

I got to the PTO switch last, but I couldn't see it without taking out the battery. Here's what I saw when I took out the battery. The wire insulation was deeply abraded.
