Cranky walk-behind:

Yeah, i have one of those machines. It came on trade, because nobody has yet figured out what is wrong with it.

A B&S engine. new spark plug. Changed fuel tank/carb combo. Found round rubber gasket to intake manifold gone. Replaced it. No rust on mag, nor flywheel. Not it. Re-installed original tank/carb combo. Manifold not cracked. Changed ignition coil/magneto. Checked safety shut-off. Disconnected Safety wire. Not that.

It will start right up, with the usual priming, and run for about 15 seconds, really good, until i think i have solved the problem, and then it goes back to sputtering, missing, and just plain cranky again. First, I checked the flywheel key. Like new, not nudged nor sheared.

I checked with a friend who has a mower repair shop. He asked if it looked like the blade had hit something. Nope-looks good. The only thing i haven't replaced is the tank to carb gasket. Thats tomorrow. But, it ran the same way with another carb/tank combo from stock!

Any help will be greatly appreciated! RJ
