Kohler 25hp with frozen governor rod

well....I got a GT5000 that runs great....but wide open....

It appears the governor rod is frozen....I know the rotation is not supposed to be much...but this thing is barely moving.

I went thru the adjustment procedure without any luck...there was no rotation counter clockwise to be gained.

I can press down hard on the governor arm and slow it down somewhat--to maybe 50% throttle-- but it revs right back up.

Basically it appears the governor is not working at all......when I engage the blades (54" GT5000) it immediately drops to about 75% throttle with no response from governor.

What say ye? Time to pull the pan and see what's laying in the sump?

I suspect a jammed or broken governor gear?

But as much as I like pulling engines...I don't wanna do it if there's something else I should try first.

Thanks fellas.
