Help removing camshaft

Hey everyone

I've got a Briggs and Stratton opposed twin 16hp 402707 0132 01 and I'm trying to replace the piston rings. I can't access the nuts holding the conrod onto the crankshaft because there isn't enough room in there with only the bottom cover off. I think if I remove the camshaft I'll have enough room. What do I need to do to remove the camshaft? Does it involve removing the flywheel? I tried reading the repair manual but it doesn't go into enough detail.

The IPL for your engines shows that it is a vertical shaft engine. The connecting rods are reached by removing the four bolts holding the Inspection Plate on at the rear of the engine. If you have removed the sump, you have made yourself a bunch of extra work. Suggest you make another attempt at reading the Service Manual.

By the way, you must push the valve tappet for #1 cylinder, closest to the flywheel, completely up in order to get the camshaft out which involves removing the head, crankcase breather, removing the valve so tappet can be pushed up.
