FWIW, I don't have a mulching deck on my GT, but did put mulching blades on it. Sears didn't offer them as it wasn't a mulching deck. Went to Agri Supply and they have a ton of blades and cross referenced the part number. Didn't get a mulching deck, but the discharged grass is chopped a lot finer than the regular blades were doing.

You might also try searching "AYP+part number" and come up with something.

Thanks Ev, My mower does have a mulching deck on it just can't find a mulching kit. I had no luck finding anything at the places you suggested. There has to be a kit someplace out there.

A "mulching kit" typically consists of hi-lift blades with or without serrations on the back and a "mulching plug" that closes off the mower discharge.

If you already have the mulching deck, I'd be very surprised if you can't get mulching blades, may have to match up by length and center hole configuartion. You'll have to be creative on the plug.

Just for background information, what is the difference between a mulching deck and a non-mulching deck, if the mulching deck needs a plug to cover a discharge opening? I always assumed that most decks with discharge ports were non-mulching unless you capped the discharge port and added a mulching blade. I have a JD Freedom mulching deck, but that has no discharge openings at all, it just does mulching period.

From the little bit I think I know, it has to do with the shape of the deck and the "vacuum" produced by the hi-lift blades as the grass is cut and recut creating mulch.

Obviously, the proper type of blade and plug are needed. Also, marketing enters into it.

I'm sure someone with more info than I have will chime in.
