Poly plastic and time?

My Junkyard find 8 year old JD LX Hood cracked today while mowing. This tractor is great shape with about 350 hrs on it with new engine. I guess time, sun, heat and cold cycles, and vibration took it toll before I babied it. Probably pretty common?

My hood is two piece hood and only had to replace the top part ($179.) I plan on selling this tractor with dozer blade when I retire in couple of years. I want it to look good and not some eye sore.

I look over at my 21 year old LT4000 with the metal hood all the crap I have layed on it, used it for saw horse, set on it, and thought built to last.

lurking I see your point well aware of the price differences. That's why I am replacing it while I can still get them. with the broken hood it's $4 or 5 hundred dollar tractor. With it nice and shinny alot more. IMO there nothing wrong with late 80's and early 90's LT series tractors. I can not wear mine out with over 1800 hours on it. the LX has alot of time to prove it's comparsion if it ever gets to 1800 PLus hours?

My brother sold a 1996 lx178 in 1 hr out front with just over 100 hrs on it for 850 , my lx 176 sold for 1100. they were great machines. The 178 didnt come with a hour meter my dad had it installed when the tractor was new.
