craftsman dyt4000 hard to start

my craftaman 917.273621 it will turn over afew times and lock up with to much compression. taken spark plug out and it turns freely. unhooked fuel line to see if it was hydrolocking but it still locks up.it just started doing this a month ago. once it starts with luck it runs great.

For information like this you need to post the make and model number of the engine.

IF it is a B&S OHV engine, most likely it needs the valves adjusted. I have detailed instructions for doing that IF you would like them.

That should be a Briggs 445777-0168-E1

Ditto what Walt said.
His instructions also contain some caveats about whst NOT to do!
