John Deere LX280 mower deck connection to the tractor

Hi, everybody. I'm a new member. My name is Harrell Sellers and I live in Proctor, Oklahoma.

I replaced the secondary belt on my LX 280 garden tractor (lawn mower). I have to work on grass rather than concrete, so I can't slide the heavy mower out from under the tractor, rather I jacked up the rear end to give me enough room to easily change the mower secondary belt.

After letting the tractor back down the draft arms won't come down where they are supposed to be.

Does someone here know how the left and right draft arms are connected? The draft arms go up under the seat under the body. But you can't see it and I would hate to have to take the body off.

Hi Herrell. I think what likely happened is that the little barrel that is on the P top adjusting bolts got wedged on the threads. Maybe if you pull the J bolts, you can wiggle them back into place. Maybe a quick bumpy ride will allow the deck to drop down into place. The arms themselves just bolt on. I suppose that the lock rod that comes back from the pedal could be jammed. You may find it easier to remove the deck next time- even on grass. One does have to be careful about bringing the rear of the rider up too far and causing a flooding condition in the engine, If you wish to pull the body, it isn't too difficult. 2 bolts front and rear, sneak out the harness for the seat switch and back in. Drive pedals I think come off too come to think of it. best of luck.
