Mower Gets stuck in reverse when going down hill or braking.

Ok so I have a Craftsman Riding Mower model# 917.2736401. The problem im having is when i go down hill and press brake, it slings into reverse. In reverse it goes faster than forward speed. In order to get it back into forward i have to go reverse a few feet and smash the brake really hard and push the shifter to forward. When moving the shifter to reverse it wont go past neutral. I can force it but it springs back. BTW when it slings into reverse while braking or going downhill and braking the shifter doesnt goto reverse, it will still be in forward but going backwards. I have cleaned under it really good, and sprayed WD40 around the linkage and shifter. Still no go. Any reason this would be happening or anyone that can guide me on what to check/do.

My first thought would be to check the torque brackets that keep the transaxle from rocking to ensure that they are not broken or bolts missing. I had one a short time ago that where the transaxle mounted to the frame on the RH side had a broken mount which in that case also preferred reverse.
