Briggs and Stratton 12.5hp

I recently had to replace a broken connecting rod on a Briggs 12.5hp engine. I was careful putting it back together. When I cranked it the first time after the repair the engine sounds funny, runs very hot, and backfires. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Did you take the crank right out and maybe have the cam timing off a tooth?

Yeah, sounds like you may not have lined up the timing marks.

I can send you a Service Manual IF you like, address below, put in proper format and remind me, engine model number and what you want.
