my scags 3 wheel front deck mowers axle broke. snaped off aprox 3 inches from wheel end, I am not afraid to open the trans axle and replace the axle but I have no idea were to get parts, and the trans axle tag is long gone so I have no idea what model number it is, there is a manual on line that I can compare pics with and so I have a rough idea of the model. My trans axle is 40 - 42 inches from axle tip to axle tip, Any one no who to order parts from????? I have considered welding this but the location I just do not think it would hold, any one have expereince with this. I have seen the new model of the trans axle for this at a cost of $1300.00, I do not want to spent that.
Every peerless transaxle I ever worked on has a metal tag riveted to the transaxle. It should be on the case by the brake disc. Model numbers 800, 900, 920 930 are popular models.
Any lawn and garden dealer will be able to look up and order Peerless parts for you. They are easy to work on after you remove the upper case half.
My Murray 465602x8d mower doesn't list the # of the transaxle in their parts list.
I washed mine, since it's plug had leaked everywhere, covering everything including the tag. I got water in it, so I vaccumed it out through a hose. Then a "mechanic" sold me EPO grease for it.
It's number on the white plastic tag shows peerless tecu H , under the barcode is 12740104. I haven't found a peerless with that number yet.
It hasn't pulled since I screwed it up with EPO multilube. I can't guess what series it fits in, but I've seen lists that show different types of lubricants for each model.
just to let you know you might have a problem locating some parts for peerless transaxles as they were owned by tecumseh and since tecumseh went under parts are becoming harder to find but i do see alot of transaxles on ebay for $2-400 much cheaper alot of times than the parts to fix the old one and definetly cheaper than the dealer price for a new one
