JD L130 engine stalls after cutting 15 minutes

| My neighbor said his John Deere L130 will cut for 10-15 minutes, then the engine dies. I asked if he could recreate it, and he said sure, just watch. Sure enough, he started his tractor, went cutting grass, and about 15 minute later the engine just died. We pushed it back into his garage, and he said it will start just fine tomorrow.
Is there any know problem, or anything I can check before we call for service? This tractor is about six years old, and maybe 400-500 hours. The oil was changed this spring, along with a new air filter and spark plugs. The fuel filter was changed last year. |

first simple thing to check is a plugged fuel tank cap vent. operate the unit with cap loose, being careful not to slop raw fuel. if prob clears up, either replace cap or clean vent with small dia wire & blow out both sides with compressed air. bugs like to lay eggs in the passageway. |

| Will try that later today and report back. |

| This is not frequent but cost me a lot of money to learn about it. My LT-155 behaved similarly. When the problem started I would make two trips around the half acre and the tractor would die. After fussing with it for a few minutes I could get it started and finish the yard. By the time I called the dealer, It would started run a short time and then not started until the next day when we would go through the same thing. Prior to getting the dealer involved, I had checked everything I could think of including the vent on the gas tank, all of the interupt switches, gas flow etc. After several trips to the dealer, they replaced the condenser in the ignition system and all was well in nuttle land but with a little less cash. |

| Thanks - if the gas cap does not make a difference, then I'll call for service and mention the condenser. |

| don't think the l130's have a an ignition condenser - may be wrong - another simple check is for trash/mice nests under engine sheet metal cooling shroud causing overheating... |

Your right, this engine does not have an ignition condenser. I checked the cap, and it appeared to be clogged. I cleaned out the pin hole on the top, and we will test run it after work today if the rain holds. The local dealer here said that 7 out of 10 times with this model and this problem the gas cap is clogged. |
