Backfire Sear Rideon tractor(Kohler Motor 17hp)

| I have sears ride on mower with Kohler Pro OHV 17 hp. Model #CV490S motor. About six years old
I just purchase an new plug and it still backfires thru carborator and exhaust. The motor will not turnover. The model # of the tractor is 917.273130.
I greatly appreciate any help you can provide!! |

| may be a sheared flywheel key. If you have mechanical experience, chk it out. OTW, get a competent repair shop to look at the unit. |

| had a kohler command series do the same thing- one of the rocker arms was broken in half! and guess what, that part is no longer available, had to get a junk engine and take the rocker from there. good news is that many different hp have the same part. good luck. i am now very disillusioned with Kohler. always thought they were supposed to be great... |

| Maybe you could be a bit more descriptive. How, does it back fire if the engine doesn't turn over? Are you indicating that it does crank but won't start? Is it possible that the the carb has overflowed and has flooded the engine? Is the oil level overfull? How long ago did it run well? Were there other symptoms along with? |
