Spark plug cable nearly degraded through

Hello everyone,

First time small engine tinkerer here. Opened up the wife's riding lawnmower (she bought it used a few months back) which has got a few issues (but hey, it runs for now). One of them being that the spark plug cable is nearly degraded straight through, probably because mice gnawed at it, at the coil level (see picture). Should I be worried about this? What's my solution here? Replace the coil? Tape up what little remains of the cable?

Before someone mentions the black electric cable that is also stripped through, I've noticed and intend to replace that as well.

In truth, if it is running well- you wouldn't need to replace the coil - or replace the plug wire -if you were creative enough. There is definitely mice presents there and use caution cleaning it out of there. Put the word hantavirus in the googler to learn more.

I'd just give it a bunch of wraps with electrical tape.

You might want to clean the cooling fins while you're at it.

Depending on the restored value of the mower you may want to replace all wires that have the insulation gone.

Yes it will probably be OK for now, but it is going to be a continuing problem.

Wipe the chewed area w/ acetone or brake cleaner and coat it w/ gasket silicone.
