Someone may correct me if I am wrong, but don't replacement of these small pin type connectors need a special pin tool? Harnesses are available from Briggs should they actually need replacing. Maybe the ends as well. Model and type numbers? Looks to be a Vanguard in an MTD?

No you do not need a special tool to replace Bullet Butt Connectors. The only difference between what most equipment makers use and what is readily available to the public are the outer insulators. One uses the plastic insulator and the other the pins design to lock them together.

I needed a new crimper tool for these "Solderless electric terminals" Found a kit that had a good assortment of the terminals as well as the tool for about the price of the tool alone. Think I got mine at Sears or Lows or Home depot for about $25. Search for "soderless electric terminal kit"
You can get away with just crimping them with pliers but looks better with the cheap tool.

Ok found the one I liked from Sears, has lots of terminals and the tool for $18 US see link. It does not have the plug together connectors I see in your picture, but you could buy them seperatly or look for a bigger kit that has them.

All the above is an inexpensive, workable solution- though the OP should know that they are not mating connectors to what he has. If the connectors are still functional maybe the thing to do would be to use some liquid electrical tape or silicone after they are cleaned up to keep them secure. That way if a component fails such as the regulator, it can still be replaced easily.

Those Bullet But connectors are for 16Guage. Remember they come in all different sizes and for different wire sizes also. Usually the color of the connector relates to the wire size.
