Correct air gap setting is .010" - .014". That is not causing your problem.

The engine is starving for fuel. the carb needs cleaned, fuel pump is not working, leak in vacuum line from block to fuel pump, fuel filter is bad or wrong one, air leak in manifold to block gaskets, air leak in carb to manifold gaskets, just some of the possibilities. Sorry, you'll have to do some checking on your own.
