Craftsman 54" Kohler 26 hp won't start

Hello all,

My Craftsman 54" 26 HP Kohler won't start today. It just clicks when I try to turn the motor over. If this werfe a care I would say it is a starter solenoid or starter motor. Any suggestions on what might be the problem and how to diagnose the correct part to buy? Thanks, Dohn

Jump the 2 large studs on the solenoid together.
IF it cranks, bad solenoid.
IF not- Clean battery connections. Make sure engine mount bolts are tight too, since that helps complete the ground circuit.
IF still a click, get the battery charged & LOAD tested.

Thanks Bill,

I will check tomorrow. The battery was quite old so I replaced it when the problem manifested. It made a much louder click after installing the new battery but same result. The terminal are quite clean. I guess the test tomorrow will tell. Thanks for your time. Take care, Dohn
