Craftsman LT 2000 Turns over but piston soesn't move!

The subject says it all! Mower was running fine until I noted a little loss in power and about 20 feet later it died. The motor spins like a top but that's because the piston is not moving! Valves are opening and closing and look to be fine. Is there a shear pin somewhere or is this engine just toast? 18 HP Briggs and Stratton Intek, mower is about 8yrs old..

Sounds like it's toast. No shear pins.

Sounds like you threw a rod. Time for a rebuild or a new tractor or motor.

Thanks! That's the first time I've ever heard of a bottom end going out of a mower that wasn't abused. other than using a mulching plate this thing has not been stressed in the least....

And have you been checking your oil before using the machine? My guess is no or you saw it was over the full mark and thought that is great never checking if it was half gas.
