| I'm thinking about buying a CC 120, but don't know much about them. It has a Johnson loader, which is my primary interest, and is has a sleeve hitch in back. Does anyone know if I could put a PTO on the back to run a tiller? Thanks in advance for any help! |

| Hops, here's a bit of what I know about the CC. It should be a 10 hp kohler engine - that comes from the first two digits of the 102 CC #. The "2" or an even number on the older Cub Cadets means you have a straight drive tractor. Odd numbered Cub Cadets of this vintage have hydrostatic drive or as some would call it, automatic drive transmission. Yes, you can put a PTO shaft on the 102. But, it would be a waste of time. The shaft is pretty much like the Farmall Cubs in that it turns at engine speed and in a CCW direction. Most tillers need 540 rpm and a CW rotation. BTW, you can use the straight drive Cub Cadet transmissions in the Farmall Cubs if your turn the carrier around and do one or two other mods to it if you wish. Now then, don't get discouraged. You'll need what is referred to a "creeper drive" for the straight drive transmission. It slows the speed of the CC down so the tiller doesn't bounce all over the place. They can be found, but they can also be right pricey. The creeper drive isn't needed for the hydrostatic transmission Cub Cadets. IH came out with their own tillers for these Cub Cadets. I think some were 38" to 42" in width. They were driven off the PTO on the front of the engine via drive belt. Here's where you don't need the PTO on the rear of the tractor. You'll also need the right angle drive for the rear of the tractor for belt routing to the tiller. Then, there's the mounting brackets that should come with the tiller. Yes, you can put a sleeve hitch on the Cub Cadet. That's usually used for the plow, cultivator, disc, etc. If I were you, I'd leave the FEL on the 102 Cub Cadet, and buy an additional Cub Cadet to be dedicated to mowing/tilling. They're cheap enough and small enough to do just that. |
