If I recall Rusty, some had small shoulder bolts on top that allowed you to slide the starter up and just install the lower bolts when you put a kit on. Is that the bolts it had? I suppose if the old bolts weren't holding the starter securely all best are off.

Yess, the upper bolts were different than the lower bolts. Since only 2 bolts were present last time i fixed it, i couldn't tell if the other 2 were the same as the ones i had. the starter did mesh ok when i got 'er done last time. Now, it looks like the bolts had loosened up, and eventually fell out. But, the lousy spot welds that held the mounting plate to the starter body, are what broke this time. teeny, little, spot welds. look like they were performed by a person with little skills, or some machine that needs its posterior ripped! Those welds were about 1/16 of an inch where the plate was supposed to hold the starter on the block. not enough to with-stand the torque of turning over a cold engine!
A friend, skilled in the art of mig welding, has fixed it for me. It should hold this time! RJ
