Replacing a JD X320 steering sector gear

Hi all,
The steering sector gear on my X320 has some damage to the teeth so I got another. I went to replace it but can't get it past the steering column drive gear. I think the bushing that holds the sector gear assy is supposed to come out which might allow enough play to get it off without removing the steering column. It won't come out all the way and the gear assay makes it difficult to pull the bushing.

The dealer said I should be able to do that. Any tips? Thanks Mike

Tech manual says to drop the steering shaft and then remove the sector gear.

Here is the page from the service manual. Looks like you can just drop the steering shaft enough to get the sector gear out.
