JD L120 intermittant

Posted by born-to-party Nebraska (My Page) on

Have a JD L120 that I have been working on. Sometimes it starts an sometimes not. Replaced the ignition switch- still intermittant. Took starter solenoid apart and cleaned it and polished points. No luck. Has new battery in mower. Seat switch and clutch switch CHECK okay. Just plain don't know where else to look. Driving me nuts!! This is for someone else, so I have my L110 that I can interchange parts to check. Changed that module on the side of the engine- no luck. Jumping solenoid and engine tries to start, but jumper gets HOT.

A better description of what doesn't happen would be helful-
Does it click?
Try to crank?
Dead silence?

IF it "tries" to crank-
Get battery charged & load tested.
IF a Briggs OHV engine, adjust the valves.

RE: JD L120 intermittant

Good thoughts from Bill above. In addition, at times the metal tab on the brake lever assy will bend on these and not always connect with the switch when the pedal is depressed.
