The hole in the governor/oil slinger goes over the end of the camshaft as you probably know. The slinger gear teeth mesh with the camshaft gear. The side "wings" of the governor/slinger ass'y fit into baffles cast in the sump. With the engine resting upside down on the flywheel screen, the slinger will stay in place. The flat crook in the governor arm which comes thru the side of the engine block rests on the "thimble" end of the governor/slinger ass'y, slide the sump on carefully. The sump will not seat unless the governor/slinger ass'y is in the right place.

I just wanted to say I got this thing back together with the new cam and she is running like a champ. My compression release had actually broken off and the pieces were in the bottom of the engine. Walt's information made this much easier to do.

Does the clocking/ timing of the slinger matter? It looks like the fins on the oil slinger will hit the crank and counterbalance if it is not lined up on the right tooth.
