Idiot-proof interlock

I have an idea for the idiot-proof interlock switch that prevents idiot people from operating equipment. Mounted on the mower or whatever piece of equipment would be a calculator size display that asks a random basic knowledge question that the would be operator would have to answer. Like what is the capital of the USA or how many ounces in a gallon etc. That would eliminate 80% of the moronic idiots out there and greatly improve safety stats.

I can't, for the life of me, understand how some folks can be so dumb about anything mechanical, electrical, or any thing else, that they can manage to fry or break their stupid bones. I cringe when i see some father letting his kids ride around on a full size off-road machine, with no safety equipment, nor any information of what not to do! "Oh, just twist this handle grip, and hang on!" Yeah, i guess thats why they put handles on kids coffins! " Just grab this handle, and hang on!" The whole problem is this: The Feds have legislated all of the parental instructions and warnings, into an insurance nightmare, to the point that a lot of dumbos figure--what the heck-if i get hurt, the insurance company will make it right! Or, the company that made the machine! They say:"If i get hurt, the company has big pockets, and i'll be able to go on living the good life"! so, whats so good about being wheel-chair or bed bound for the rest of your life? Stupid is as stupid does! |

I know people who buy Pit Bulls for their kids as pets. Some times all you can do is shake your head in disbelief.

"I know people who buy Pit Bulls for their kids as pets. A lady here in Pittsburgh, PA. bought her young child a Pit bull puppy. It was cute as Christmas, as shown in a news picture. The lady's boy friend didn't like the puppy, so he used it for football practice--kicked it so hard, it flew high in the air, and fell down dead, or near it! Well, the cops came, arrested him for animal cruelty, and he is now in the slammer! Good job, Pittsburgh Police! May he stay there forever! Haven't heard what the people are going to do about another pup, but i'd hope they buy the kid a Beagle, or another type of friendlier mutt!

pits are very aggressive when it comes to protecting their space. Yep, they playful when they know you, but when they don't there are thousands of cases where kids, men or woman was just walking down the street and they got attacked. This don't count all the other dogs attacked and kill for no reason. Like it our not they got a bad reputation for a reason.

Older couple in their 80's, put their property in living trust. One of the rentals went in Cal what we call Sect 8 (they get welfare types and YOU pay their rent). Dumb in my opinion. Renters had 4 pits. The pits got out. Mauled a neighbor. My son's law firm is handling the case Right now an offer of $1.7 million against the owner (elderly couple) is on the table. The renters get off scott free. 1.7 takes all property they own. 150K of homeowners insurance even though the policy had an exclusion on dogs. The 1.7 wipes out gramps and his wife completely and maxes out their homeowners insurance. Lost (lose) everything over 4 dogs and a renter... Oh and the lady who was mauled? She is blind, and lost half her face. She was (past tense) a PE teacher at the local high school... 34 yrs old, single, and just bought the home two weeks prior to the mauling...

Well, half the population is below average in intelligence. And the average is 100. So consider this another way, for everyone with an IQ of 125 there is another person with an IQ of 75!

You don't need idiot-proof interlocks. What's needed is some sort of requirement that owners read their owners manuals. I'll never understand this nonsense some folks have in their heads about how "figuring out" the way something operates by throwing levers and flipping switches.....is "better" than reading a set of instructions. At least twice a week when I'm on my way to a service call, my phone will ring and it will be somebody telling me I don't need to come out....because "we figured it out." That's my point. There's nothing for you to "figure out". Read the manual first, the info is in there. If you can't read and understand a simple set of operating instructions, what are the chances you'll be able to understand a basic knowledge question? ;-)

"You don't need idiot-proof interlocks. What's needed is some sort of requirement that owners read their owners manuals." It's all about the male ego...most of us guys have this "flaw." That's why we can't stop and ask for directions either. We'll be admitting we can't handle the situation without someones help. I was watching an investigative report on tv just yesterday, oldsters who lost their spouses and now were on their own. A group of widows were taking an auto shop course to learn basic maintenance and cut down on their expenses. The shop teacher said they were far more attentive and asked lots of questions compared to the men who took his course (I guess not every man knows how to change oil and filters). We just can't help ourselves out of it I guess.
