Take a look......

I've upped the ante on my fixing of tractors and got something a little more ugly/difficult to bring back to some kind of life. It's my first garden tractor; a Wizard built by Gilson built either in '82 or '83 (engine code is 82111112 so that's what I figure).

(Sorry about all the links; don't know how to post images in the body itself).

She's a beauty, eh? I need a project for the fall/winter and this should be perfect. Everything is in pretty good working order; just need to give it an overhaul. I do have a couple of questions if someone could help me out:

1. Anyone happen to know what model this might be? I only ask because the tag with the model # is worn and I can only make out "GIS 71xxxx38". I didn't try very hard this morning, but maybe I can "lift" the faded numbers a little better later on. On that note, where can I find a manual (if at all)? Would Toro be able to supply one, or do they just do Gilson parts?

2. As dumb as this sounds, I've never had to replace a seat on all my amateur refurbs. What kind of seat does this need to attach to the two rails; does it have a particular name? I see replacement tractor seats in Northern Tools all the time, but how do I know if it will fit if I order it? (Sorry if that's a dumb question).

Anyway, enjoy the pics and any help is appreciated.

Wow! That one is beyond anything I've ever tried to rejuvenate. Good luck, and I hope to be able to see your work in progress pics.

You know, in photo #4 - the one showing the rear of that tractor, it looks to have the remnants of a three point hitch back there. The top link attachment point has multiple holes for it. You can even see one of the other attachment points for the lift arms near the rear tire.

I've seen a few of the Gilson's on Craig's list in my area recently. The front ends looked very similar to this one.

Good luck in the project. A little bit at a time, and you can have a work horse.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking about grabbing that manual. Hopefully it applies.

Thanks "always-beezee" for uploading "pintopkp's" pictures.

Although you certainly have your work cut cut for you with this one, she's definitely not too far gone by any means. Have fun!!

Yes breeze. Thanks for that! Sorry I didn't say something sooner (didn't mean to be rude). Makes the post a lot easier on the eyes! :)
