Craftsman Tractor Stalls Out
| | |
Posted by jsnoon MA (My Page) on Wed, Nov 25, 09 at 10:54
| I have a Craftsman Tractor with a Kohler Pro engine. It will stall out if I don't engage the blades. It will run without the blades running but it sputters and does eventually die out. The other day I couldn't take my foot off the clutch/brake without it stalling. I added a little more oil and it seemed a little better but not much. Any ideas? |

| Does the oil level seem hard to read or is that fine now and set to full? Anything else seem abnormal? You could be looking at a fuel system issue if it seems to be starving for fuel. Likely causes in this case could be a plugged vent hole in the fuel cap or water/ debris in the system. If that isn't really what you are experiencing, it could be possible to have other issues- like a seat switch maybe. To start, you need to have the brake engaged, but once the brake is released- the operator must be on the seat. If you lift off the seat it would instantly die. Check it out and post what you find. Be descriptive and also give us engine and chassis 917# model #s. |

Defective or out of adjustment seat switch would get my vote. That is usually the culprit in cases where engaging the clutch, or the blade PTO, results in the engine dying or sputt sputt sputtering. ***" I added a little more oil and it seemed a little better but not much."*** Was the oil low before you added more? |
