John Deere 425 stopped running, white smoke, wont start

| I have a '93 JD 425 with 600 hours. I was raking leaves in my yard, tractor was under very light use, half throttle. It had been running for about 10 minutes. The tractor then shut down and white smoke came out from under the hood. I suspect that it came from the air intake. I thought that it had run out of gas since the tank was completely dry. I filled the tank up. The tractor would start up for about 5 seconds when the choke was on. I brought the tractor into the garage to let it sit. Today it will not start at all.
Fuel pump is working and getting gas.
Spark Plugs are firing.
If I pour gas through the air intake the tractor started up.
Can one one please point me in the right direction? Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you have run-ability with fuel being put down the throat I still would suspect a fuel pump, over lean condition and with the tank running dry you might of plugged the main jets. Pull the carb, douche it out was well as possible if not off the unit then on the unit with carb cleaner. I'm thinking you sucked a bunch of stuff into the carb Are you SURE the fuel pump is working.... |

| Sounds like markymark-ca has the fix. Whith the bowl off the carb also use a stright pin to clean out the jets in the carb while you're in there. Also make sure you hear a "click" of the carb solonoid when you turn the ignition switch "on". If this solonoid doesn't work no fuel gets to the main jet. You may have sucked up water in your carb being use all the gas in your tank. Removing the bowl should fix that as well. |

| Thank You!!! I'll give the carb a good cleaning and report back. |

| I have not fixed it yet, but I did disconnect the fuel line and indeed it wasn't pumping fuel out. I just replaced the fuel pump last month. I manually pumped fuel into the carb. and it ran smooth. Thanks for the help. |
