I have a craftsman model # 28n707 type 0173-01 15.5 ohv lawn tractor ..last week going up hill a cloud of white smoke came out the front... this happened twice... (thougth it was low on oil -was not)...now it starts with no problem but once the blades are put on it stalls? IF it is the filters /gas ?? where is that ? any ideas or suggerstion before I take it to a shop?

The best advice to you, Sir, is to load it up and take it to a fixit shop that does those things! From your questions, i can truthfully say that it would take too long to tell you how to fix it!

As harsh as it (rustyj's response) might seem, it is most likely the best advice to follow in this case.
If the symptoms you described were actually consistent with a clogged fuel filter, or some other fuel system related issue, we might be able to steer you through to a solution.

However........that smoke just IS NOT a symptom of fuel starvation. It can be a symptom of a blown head gasket, and the 28 series Briggs have been somewhat prone to blowing head gaskets....with results like yours.

Sounds like 2 different problems possibly.

Your stalling might be a safety switch issue.
Without the Sears 917.xxxxxx number, one doesn't know which schematic to look at to guide you.
There are at least 14 different Craftsman tractors that have that identical engine. Some of these tractors are quite different from others, so I can almost guarantee that one schematic doesn't fit them all.

When it stalls, does it seem like your engine doesn't have enough power or does it seem like the spark is killed. The 1st would indicate an ENGINE mechanical problem and the 2nd a tractor electrical problem.

Felix: Rusty's intentions are well meant . Follow Mownie and Bill's advice and if possible forward further info as suggested.... failing that follow Rusty's advice lol Welcome to the Site !
