I was in your position about three years ago. Had a walk-behind drop spreader (which I still use on my small front lawn), but wanted something faster for the back lawn (about 3/4 acre).

I found a clean, low mileage AGRIFAB 45-0315 Broadcast Spreader with 85lb capacity on Craigslist for $15 which sells for about $75 new. I wanted something with more capacity like the Brinly 175lb, but they sell new for $200 or more.

As it turns out, I've been happy with the AGRIFAB. I have to fill the hopper twice when I do the back, instead of once if I had the 175lb model. Otherwise unit works well, distributes product pretty evenly, and seems to be will made.

New Jersey - Thanks for your reply. I'm glad to hear the smaller AGRIFAB has worked for you for the past 3 yrs. I bought an inexpensive "push" type approx 10 years ago and it still works okay although it is actually rusting and deteriorating as it hangs on the wall of my garage.

The smaller AGRIFAB model you use is only slightly larger than the one I currently use now ... so I'll probably opt for something larger. I generally do not find those good deals for myself like you did on Craigslist. The Brinley looks like good quality to me, although it is higher priced. I like the pneumatic tires and the generally strong appearance. It is priced for $199.99 everywhere and all the customer reviews are 4's and 5's (positive).
