Tractor will not start (completely dead when key is turned). Battery good...changed out solenoid... no help. Think it may be one of the kill switches now (or maybe the ignition switch). Pulled ignition switch and checked terminals... jumped seat switch... wiggled mower deck switch and brake switch... got power to turn engine once... Next several times I tried... dead. Ideas?????

Check your safety switches. They can be a pain. I made a small jumper which I use on each switch to make sure they work or don't

You can try turning the key to on, then using a larger wire to jump the battery to the starter connection, see if you can get it to start

But usually, its the deck safety switch, or clutch/brake or
a bad ignition switch

Click link and view the electrical schematic (page 33). To test the starter solenoid control circuit, each step requires the key switch to be in the START position while checking for power, remember that.
Find the white wire on the back of the key switch. Use a test light or volt meter to check for power on that terminal when the key switch is turned to START. If you show power there but the starter solenoid does not engage, go to the clutch switch and test for power at those wires/terminals (of the 4 wires on the clutch switch, only the 2 whites will show power if switch is good and if pedal is down.) If the clutch switch is good, you will detect power on 2 white wires/terminals. If only one white wire shows power while the clutch pedal is down, bad clutch switch. If both of the 2 white wires show power (key in START), go the the deck switch next. Check these 2 white wires for power as in the other steps. If you have power on just 1 of the white wire when the deck is disengaged, bad switch. The seat switch on this tractor does not play a role in starter solenoid control, so you can omit checking that. Only the key switch, clutch switch, and deck switch govern the starter operation (on this tractor). Oh, remember this too. If a clutch switch or deck switch is loosely mounted, or if the mounting bracket has been bent or moved out of adjustment, that can mimic a defective switch too. So, if you detect what looks like it might be a bad switch, try to operate the switch manually with a finger or a screw driver to make sure it's not just "out of range" of the movement that is supposed to operate the switch.
