Way back, in the olden days, carburetor floats were made of brass, and could be repaired with a dab of solder, using a soldering iron! Ya didn't have to drive 30 miles to the town hardware store that sold parts, to buy a float! But, that had to change--it was too easy and inexpensive!

How I wish floats were still made of brass. I have soldered many brass floats. As a follow up to my repair, it failed and I had to resort to buying one from John Deere.;$25 dollars plus freight. Where I grew up, if you didn't fix it you didn't have it. The small garage in the rural town I grew up in was run by an older mechanic who started in a blacksmith shop then model T cars. He used to tell me: "this is a repair shop, not a replacement shop."

I think you are from a time when it was easier to repair than to replace.
