shaft drive, kohler command series engine, decent deck design and good routine use/maintenance by yerself should add up to a reliable machine for that many years of service.
If you do a google search, you'll see varying opinions from users - some good, some bad. Overall, seems to be a solid design with no particular quirks/weaknesses...just mho.
