Flywheel gear?
A question for the learned heads here:(electric start Tecumseh engine)
I have here a late model Tecumseh snow blower engine, that eats starter gear teeth! Upon inspection of the ring gear, it looks like the ring gear is on backwards, as it doesn't have the slanted "cut" look like a normal gear. That is--the teeth are square cut on their edges, not a slanted corner, which allows the starter gear to mesh with the ring gear. When i operate the starter, it clashes loudly. I have replaced the gear on the starter today. The old one was chewed up mightily! Once the teeth mesh, it will turn and start, but it makes a heck of a noise, doing it! It does start with the pull handle/rope thing.
The machine is only last years model. I don't know if the owner used it much, although he has a steep paved driveway. Any ideas on this problem? I need help, asap! Rustyj
