John Deere x360 will turn over but won't start

I took off the air cleaner and poured gas into the carburetor after trying to start my John Deere x360 garden tractor without success. It would run for a couple of seconds. I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. There is gas in the line as it enters the carburetor. Do I need to take off and clean the carburetor or could there be another reason for the problem?

Yep, if it runs a couple seconds or so on the alternate fuel you spoon fed it, carb needs a thorough clean out of the internals.

Get your head near the carb and listen for a CLICK as you turn the key on and off. If you don't hear the CLICK then the fuel shut-off solenoid in the carb isn't working and no gas is getting to the main jet.
