Should I prune this Crape Myrtle

I bought this Natchez about 6 years ago. At that time it was 6 feet tall. I've let it grown naturally, but feel a good prune could improve the canopy and get me closer to the desired look. I don't want to mess it up, but feel a cut at about 7 ft might let me get this tree to where i want it to be in a few years by only letting a few sprouts of the new growth remain on each branch.
